International
Dynamic expansion
Media Markt and Saturn have also been enjoying dynamic growth in the international arena for approximately 20 years. This is made possible by a decentralized sales concept which can be tailored to local, regional and national needs, tastes and circumstances. This approach has been a great success. Today, over half of the corporate group’s total revenues is generated outside Germany.
Leaders locally and nationally
In 2009, the Media-Saturn Group opened 50 new stores throughout Europe. Its aim is to be the best local provider and thus become the market leader in each respective country.
Steady growth
Today expansion efforts are increasingly being focused on the dynamic growth markets in Eastern and Central Europe. In 2006 respectively 2007, the Media-Saturn Group entered the markets in Sweden, Russia and Turkey. In fall 2008, the first store in Luxembourg was opened. In 2010, Media Markt will open its first store in China.
Expansion with a sense of proportion
Expansion at Media Markt and Saturn does not, however, take place at any price. The corporate group makes any decision regarding the countries into which the two retail brands expand on the basis of comprehensive market analyses. Consideration is given to key criteria such as the population’s buying power, consumer needs and local competition. Every new store that is opened must ultimately enhance the portfolio of countries. The name of the game is seizing opportunities without losing sight of the risks.
